The only location that was unavailable was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador
Plot
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job she’s ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers persuaded both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-world locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. The UK allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed on any film or screen production, especially an American one.
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger of gigantic proportions
Although it’s accurately described as occupying the largest plot of residential land (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes. ). Oh my!
I don’t know if my heart can handle season 3
Season 2 almost gave me a heart attack in the final few minutes of season 2. At first I thought this was a key, slow-burn political drama. Maybe another kind of *feel good* TV drama like Madame Secretary.
Boy, was I wrong
The Diplomat will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode. Binge watching them like a hungry animal. This is political theater at its best.
It’s even more cutthroat than my wildest dreams
And even if it’s only 1-tenth true to what REALLY happens in US politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy), it’s still a wild ride. Keri Russell is once again in a strong role as a female lead, reminding me why I loved her performance in "The Americans" so much; she’s exceptional!
