CIA operative Joe tries to balance his personal and professional lives as the spearhead of the agency’s war on terror. Real-life military advisors helped produce more authentic gun handling, house clearing, location and squad-based action, etc. Mr. Sheridan knows how to take us into testosterone-filled macho worlds without clichés and seemingly without an agenda. It is what it is.
No apologies needed
His characters are always justified, and he is very skilled as an actor. But to be great, you have to write good parts for women. The writing has to be as good, if not better, than for men. Guys are simple. Women are smarter, more complex.
They are strong and compelling
Beth is Yellowstone (a great character and performance) the barrel riders, the lone female ranch hand (a fantastic Jen Landon as Teeter) all great female characters who fit the world of the story in a natural, unforced way. Not just a ‘partner…’ or T & V. She stepped up her game with an excellent character by Faith Hill who was crushed in 1883″ followed by Dame Mirren in 1923’s Ignition Failure. Now we have Zoe Saldana doing some of the best work of her career. I definitely buy her as the CIA boss in an open marriage (nice touch).
Truth above all!
I buy De Oliveira as a broken woman with a burning rage that won’t quit, and thank you, thank you, thank you to the writers/directors/producers for not letting her get the best of her male counterpart with an extra… hundred pounds of muscle. I think her character is much more interesting if she’s someone who has to be knocked out cold or just overwhelmingly grounded before she can quit. Let’s talk about Jill Wagner now, or should I say her hair? What a face!

From schmaltzy Hallmark swindlers to a super-bass special forces unit? Special mention: Ms. Lanier as the mean teenage daughter. I’m looking forward to this loose canon arc as long as they continue to avoid the teen angst cliché. Good acting, it could get interesting…
