A modern-day tale of making a fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs
See the most popular movies and TV shows by writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user ratings. A Landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, will act as a go-between for exploration companies and landowners. The Landman’s job is usually to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man camps), assemble the earthmoving equipment, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part repairman, part problem solver, and part facilitator.
I’m sure you can guess which one!
Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have any expectations that come with being a Yellowstone fan. The main story so far is engaging and exciting without being overly ambitious. There are a few subplots that carry the episodes well, but one of them might compromise the overall quality of the show.
The cast is well-detailed in their characters
The visual production is remarkable; the direction and the environmental creation are to be enjoyed. It would be interesting to hear what people in the industry think about how realistic the location scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really drives the show well.
Overall, it’s a very good series, visually well-executed and excellently acted
