Plot
Follows a struggling high school heavy metal band made up of outcasts who take advantage of the town’s sudden interest in the occult to gain a reputation as a satanic metal band, until a strange series of events lead to a witch hunt that bring back to life. The titles of all the episodes are from songs of heavy metal/hard rock bands. Def Lepard – Hysteria, KISS – The Sky Is Burning, Meatloaf – Speaking In Tongues, Iron Maiden – Can I Play With Madness, Black Sabbath – Dirt Young, Danzig – Mother, Queen and dance” is late.

The series follows the disappearance of a high school quarterback, which leads three outcasts to form a satanic metal band that soon becomes the target of an urban witch hunt. One of the series' strengths lie in the ability to capture the paranoia and hysteria of the time with a mixture of horror and social commentary. The characters are deeply flawed but charming, and the band members ' naivety and ambition that provide the comedy’s anchor.
However, the series has its flaws
The production values are high and the distinctive visual style reflects the raw and paranoid atmosphere of the 1980s. The editing and music choices heighten the tension, creating a sense of anxiety and dread. Some viewers may find the humor okay and some of the jokes fall flat.
Rating: 7 out of 10
The pacing can also be uneven, with some episodes feeling rushed and others lingering. Despite these flaws, “Hysteria!” remains an engaging and entertaining series. It’s a must-see for horror comedy fans and those who appreciate the work of Matthew Scott Kane.
